The combination of Holt’s HI-1567 COTS Dual Transceiver and Condor’s CORE‑1553® Intellectual Property achieved full MIL‑STD‑1553 RT Validation at Test Systems, Inc. in Phoenix Arizona. Military design engineers have confidently coupled these small, low cost transceivers with their own FPGAs or ASICs to accomplish significantly smaller and lower cost MIL‑STD‑1553 Databus Terminals.
Mission Viejo, CA (October 6, 2003) - Holt Integrated Circuits, a leading provider of monolithic ICs for military and commercial avionics databus applications, today announced that their MIL-STD-1553 HI-1567 COTS dual transceiver IC, designed into a full-function Condor Engineering databus terminal using Condor's MIL-STD-1553 Intellectual Property (IP), CORE-1533®, achieved full RT Validation. Testing was performed at Test Systems, Inc., an independent Air Force approved testing service for MIL-STD-1553 remote terminals. "Validation testing was performed on Condor's product using the Holt dual 5V transceiver," said Rick Schuh, V.P. Sales at Condor Engineering. "Condor is pleased to provide the most feature rich, high performance validated RT intellectual property for MIL-STD-1553."
Holt's HI-1567 dual transceiver is used to interface a user's FPGA or ASIC logic to the MIL-STD-1553 bus. "Systems designers typically use Holt transceivers to enable them to take full advantage of the breakthrough technological advances in device integration to achieve reduced chip count, higher MTBF, more available board space, and lower cost," said Sandy Edberg, director of sales at Holt. The HI-1567 dual transceiver operates at 5V and consists of a single monolithic CMOS device thereby providing lower power consumption than traditional hybrid or single chip devices using bipolar technology. Like all of Holt's MIL-STD-1553 transceivers, the HI-1567 has internal circuits that protect the device from destructive operating conditions such as over-current caused by an unintentional short across the transceiver's output or excessive voltages when connected to an un-terminated bus or stub. The HI-1567 has the same pin-out arrangement and footprint as Holt's recently released HI-1573 dual 3.3V transceiver allowing easy future design upgrade. Package options include a small 20-pin ESOIC package, an ultra-small 7mm x 7mm chip-scale package, or the larger traditional 20-pin ceramic DIP format.
Holt's offerings of COTS MIL-STD-1553 products include 5V and 3.3V dual transceivers, as well as interface transformers. All products are released to production and available for immediate customer evaluation.
