The introduction of Holt’s HI-1575 MIL-STD-1553 Smart Dual Transceiver, with an integrated encoder/decoder offers users the option to eliminate the sometimes tedious implementation of the Manchester encoder/decoder. Next in their introduction of 3.3 volt products supporting MIL-STD-1553 the HI-1575 is designed to meet the word-level requirements of MIL-STD-1553A & B and interact with the user’s FPGA or host processor, while completely handling the analog and timing-critical part of the 1553 interface.
Mission Viejo, CA (July 22, 2005) – Holt Integrated Circuits today announced the availability of the HI-1575 single-chip CMOS 3.3 volt MIL-STD-1553 “Smart Transceiver”. The HI-1575 is a low-power CMOS dual transceiver with on-chip Manchester encoder, dual decoders, and a simple 16-bit parallel subsystem interface designed as a building block in MIL-STD-1553 Bus Controllers, Remote Terminals and Bus Monitors. Acting as a “Smart Transceiver”, the HI-1575 handles all bit-level timing discrimination, word encoding and decoding including Sync and parity insertion, as well as ensuring electrical compliance to MIL-STD-1553. The HI-1575 allows terminal designers to customize their application at the word-level and higher.
Like other Holt MIL-STD-1553 products, the HI-1575 is a monolithic CMOS IC designed for 3.3V operation and exceptionally low power, low cost and smallest form factor. The highly efficient transceivers on board the HI-1575 steer to the bus, allowing the chip to dissipate less than 500 mW even at 100% transmit duty cycle. All that is needed to interface the HI-1575 to the MIL-STD-1553 bus is an industry-standard 1:2.5 turns ratio isolation transformer (also available from Holt).
A single write-cycle is used to transfer a word to the HI-1575, which encodes the data, adds the selected Sync and Parity bits, and transmits the word on the chosen MIL-STD-1553 data bus. Also, activity on the MIL-STD-1553 dual redundant data buses is continuously monitored. When the HI-1575 detects a properly encoded word, a hardware interrupt is generated and the information is decoded and stored in one of two internal registers, which may then be read by the host subsystem.
The HI-1575 “smart transceiver” is the newest offering as part of Holt’s strategy to provide a complete line of 3.3 volt products for MIL-STD-1553 and ARINC 429 Databus interface applications. The device is offered in a small 32-pin TQFP package and in an ultra-small 40-pin 6mm x 6mm plastic chip-scale package.
“Implementing the timing-critical encode/decode functions in a user’s FPGA is not a straightforward task,” says Sandy Edberg, Sales Director of Holt Integrated Circuits. “In many cases, the availability of an integrated “Smart Transceiver” will save many hours of the designers time without compromising performance or cost. The introduction of the HI-1575 is in step with our mission to provide the highest performance MIL-STD-1553 products at the best value in the industry.”
Holt Integrated Circuits’ offering of single-chip CMOS Monolithic IC products for MIL-STD-1553 and ARINC 429 databus interface applications is the largest available from any supplier. MIL-STD-1553 products range from 3.3V and 5V transceivers and Manchester encoder/decoders to more highly integrated products including the 3.3V HI-6110 MIL-STD-1553 BC/RT/MT Message Processor and the new HI-1575 “Smart Transceiver”. Screening options include Industrial and full Mil-Temp ranges.
Production samples of the HI-1575PQI in the 32-pin TQFP package are available now from Holt.
