Mission Viejo, CA (August 29, 2007) – Holt Integrated Circuits, a world leader in data bus IC’s for the avionics and military industries, today announced the first ARINC 429 terminal IC with Serial Peripheral Interface (SPI). The new IC eliminates the need for the common 16-bit parallel data bus interface and therefore significantly reduces pin count and board space by minimizing the number of connections to the host microcontroller. Furthermore, the integrated line driver and receiver allow direct connection to the ARINC 429 serial bus. In addition, the integrated receiver is capable of user-programmable label recognition for any combination of the 256 possible labels.
The HI-3585 incorporates similar features to the popular HI-3582, including a receiver with label recognition, 32 x 32 receive FIFO and built-in analog line receiver. The independent transmitter also has 32 x 32 transmit FIFO and a built-in line driver. The option of either programmable data or parity in the 32nd bit as well as the ability to switch the bit-significance of ARINC 429 labels is also available. The SPI and all control signals are CMOS and TTL compatible and support 3.3V or 5V operation. Different input and output resistance values allow easy implementation of external lightning protection circuitry.
Customers not requiring full terminal IC functionality have the option of purchasing a standalone transmitter HI-3587, or receiver HI-3588, both with SPI interface and identical functionality to their respective components contained in the HI-3585 terminal IC.
“The HI-3585, HI-3587 and HI-3588 will significantly simplify designs by replacing the 16-bit parallel data bus interface with an SPI interface, reducing the number of signal control pins from more than twenty to only four, thus enabling smaller, more compact designs” said Anthony Murray, Director of Business Development at Holt.
All three devices are available in Industrial or full Military temperature range and have a RoHS compliant (lead free) option.
