Mission Viejo, CA (December 9, 2009) – Holt Integrated Circuits, a world leader in data bus IC’s for the avionics and military industries, today announced the availability of development kits for the recently released HI-6120 and HI-6121 MIL-STD-1553 Remote Terminals. These devices provide a single-chip, 3.3V solution, including dual transceivers and 64K bytes RAM, in compact surface-mount plastic packages.
The HI-6120 uses a 16-bit parallel host bus interface in a 100-pin PQFP package. The HI-6121 uses a 4-wire Serial Peripheral host Interface (SPI) and comes in a 52-pin PQFP or 64-pin QFN (currently the world’s smallest remote terminal solution, at only 9mm x 9mm x 1mm). Each device has its own kit and provides the user with a reference design board, power supply, USB cable, and CD containing complete software and User’s Guide. The devices interface to an on-board Zilog® ZNEOTM microprocessor which can be programmed over a USB using the supplied Zilog® “Smart Cable”. The board also includes two external flash EEPROM devices for optional automatic initialization and bus interface transformers for easy connection to a MIL-STD-1553 bus.
“These kits will enable first time users to plug into an existing MIL-STD-1553 bus and receive valid messages right out of the box,” said Anthony Murray, Director of Business Development at Holt. “In addition, the included software may be used as the basis for a new design and is easily ported to other microprocessors, reducing product development cycles and time-to-market”.
The included software demonstrates all key features of the devices, including auto-initialization, Descriptor Table setup, message illegalization, mode code handling, data buffering and interrupt management. In addition, documentation on memory mapping the Zilog® ZNEOTM microprocessor and tips on using the Zilog® ZDSII Debugger for ZNEOTM are provided.
