Mission Viejo, CA (January 25, 2012) – Holt Integrated Circuits, a world leader in data bus IC’s for commercial and military avionics, today published a new application note (AN-302) which provides guidelines for protection against lightning induced transients applied to Holt’s ARINC 825 CAN products. The circuits recommended in AN-302 were all tested according to RTCA/DO-160G, Section 22, Level 4 Pin Injection Test Waveform Set A (3 & 4), Set B (3 & 5A) and Set Z (3 & 5B).
The recent move from aluminum to newer composite air frames has made lightning susceptibility a major issue in aircraft design and reliability. In addition, the very low (10pF) bus connection internal capacitance requirements mandated in the ISO 11898-5 CAN specification make protection of ARINC 825 components particularly challenging. AN-302 provides the user with the necessary guidelines to comply with RTCA/DO-160G, Level 4 waveforms, while maintaining all the requirements of the ISO 11898 CAN specification. AN-300 and AN-301 are also available to provide lightning protection recommendations for Holt’s ARINC 429 components. All app notes are available upon request from Holt.
Holt’s latest products complying with DO-160G Level 4 include HI-3110, an ARINC 825 avionics CAN controller with integrated transceiver and HI-3000, a 1Mbps ARINC 825 avionics CAN transceiver.
