Mission Viejo, CA (November 14, 2013) - Holt Integrated Circuits today announced the introduction of HI-1582, a pin-compatible, “form and fit” drop-in replacement for the Data Device Corporation MIL-STD-1553 transceiver, BU-63133L8. The new device is a single-channel transceiver designed for use with Holt MIL-STD-1553 isolation transformers with 1:2.50 turns ratio.
The HI-1582 transmitter takes complementary CMOS / TTL Manchester II bi-phase data inputs. These are converted into differential analog outputs that directly drive the bus isolation transformer. A logic level Transmit Inhibit control input is provided. The receiver section converts MIL-STD-1553 differential bus signals into bipolar CMOS data outputs for input into an external Manchester II decoder. When low, a receive enable input pin, STROBE, forces the receiver outputs to the logic-0 idle state.
The new device is a good choice for mission-critical applications, where single point failure is a concern. Two single channel HI-1582 transceivers are an excellent alternative to the more common dual transceiver solutions popular in many applications.
“Given the cost of re-design and qualification, obsolescence is a major concern for our customers,” said Anthony Murray, Director of Business Development at Holt. “This device provides our customers with a second source and cost effective alternative.”
The HI-1582 is packaged in a compact 32-pin plastic QFN with an exposed heat sink on the bottom, which may be soldered to the PCB ground plane for optimal thermal dissipation. The device is available in industrial −40oC to +85oC and extended −55oC to +125oC temperature ranges.
