Mission Viejo, CA (July, 2017) – Holt Integrated Circuits today announced a new family of ARINC 429 line drivers, HI-8500, which provide an option of tri-state high impedance outputs while the device is powered on or off. In addition, three choices of output resistance are available to enable connection of external components for enhanced lightning protection.
Like Holt’s industry-standard HI-8585 and HI-8586 ARINC 429 line drivers, the HI-8500 includes digital slew-rate selection to support high-speed (100kb/s) and low-speed (12.5kb/s) data rates. Inputs are compatible with either 5V or 3.3V logic. The HI-8507 additionally bonds out pull-up/down resistors connected to the TXIN and SLP pins, enabling these inputs to force the ARINC bus to a known state (Null or tri-state) during system power-up.
“Tri-state mode of operation is essential when connecting more than one line driver to a databus, typically used for redundancy or test purposes,” said Anthony Murray, Holt’s Director of Marketing Communications. “Operating in Hi-Z mode while powered down allows simultaneous connection of additional LRUs without disturbing the bus.”
These devices are available in industrial (−40oC to +85oC) and extended (−55oC to +125oC) temperature ranges, with optional burn-in available for extended temperature range devices. Package options include an industry standard SOIC-8, ceramic DIP and a small footprint 5mm x 5mm 20-pin QFN. The HI-8500 family is pin compatible with Holt’s existing line drivers, such as HI-8585 and offers a pin-for-pin drop-in replacement for the DEI1070A-DEI1075A, DEI1170A and DEI1171A devices, with the added feature of a powered-off Hi-Z mode.
